Festivals

Patsy just loves festivals! When we hear the word Festival, most of you will think tented villages, loud music, late nights, wading through mud, weird smelling cigarettes, hangovers and naff toilet facilities.

Festivals of many types, serve to meet specific social needs and duties, as well as to provide entertainment. These times of celebration offer a sense of belonging for religious, social, or geographical groups. Modern festivals that focus on cultural or ethnic topics seek to inform members of their traditions. In past times, festivals were times when the elderly shared stories and transferred certain knowledge to the next generation. Historic feasts often provided a means for unity among families and for people to find mates. Select anniversaries have annual festivals to remember previous important occurrences.

There are many other festivals that happen each or every other year such as the 2000 trees festival. This family-friendly festival raises awareness of green issues and aims to be an ethical alternative to the more mainstream music events, with a hint of evening music entertainment too and maybe a beer or two for participants. There are over 100 music festivals in the UK each year. The grandfather of them all is
Glastonbury but have you ever considered The Big Chill, T in the Park, Bestival or the V Festival, or the more sedate Isle of Wight Festival.

The difference with festivals is the variety. Another great thing is the atmosphere ... with the eclectic mix of people and music, and everyone totally up for it, and real-world distractions left at home, the vibe can be amazing. After the music stops for the day, the weirdness starts as people make their own entertainment. If you can, campinaVDub at the festival - don't go home for the night: the atmosphere will go home with you, and you'll be starting from scratch again the next day.
